Post subject:  Carvin Acoustic repair

Hi folks,
I have a friend that has asked me to repair her husbands Carvin Acoustic cutaway. There are some cracks in the top as a result of an accident. There are places where the finish has come off the guitar, like a small chip or gouge. I wonder if anyone knows what kind of finish was used on these guitars...Poly or Nitro or ? Thanks for any info you might have

Back ten or so years ago I looked at Carvin acoustics - a friend had a couple and I was moderately impressed by them. I'm going to guess the finish is a poly of some sort but to be sure you should do the test. I think Carvin is still around, might be worth a call to them.

Most likely a poly finish. As mentioned test with acetone in a concealed place to confirm.
